On the plus side, I noticed that pretty much the only Christmas lights left on the shelf were the dredded blue-white ones. At least the consumers exercised judgement when given the choice!

Yes so frustrating. We have tried before too. Had some minor success with smaller shops but they don’t hold the stock for long. It really needs the larger stores to support it and buck a trend. Mission 2025 here we come (again!).
