George Zahora Has Gone Beyond the X Dimension
@georgezahora.bsky.social
(He/Him) IT Exec. Composer/Sound Designer. Occasional Playwright. Retired Music Journalist. Maker of foolish and whimsical comments. Person. Doctor Who fan. Black lives matter. Trying to be kind.
I like frogs, toads, salamanders, newts, birds, goats, etc
I don't typically make much of an effort to publicize my composing/sound design work here, but I have a soft spot for this production for reasons that may become obvious.

It's an excellent production and includes ~10 minutes of new music from me, if that's a selling point.

This is Ixchel, our *very* senior Bourke Parakeet (18+ years). He appears to have had a mild stroke over the weekend and is now living on the floor of his cage, walking in counter - clockwise circles, but he's still feeding himself and accepting water from a syringe.

Handicapped parakeet Lego (remember her?) has laid her first egg! It isn't fertile - it's unclear whether any of our unpartnered male birds know that she exists - but she's still protecting it (other than accidentally kicking it out of the coconut).

Handicapped parakeet Lego may be tiring of the coconut...

(I walked into the bird room thinking, "Please, Lego, be doing something more interesting than just sitting in the coconut," and this is what I saw.)

Over the weekend we were treated to the rare blessing of a lovely, fat little toad, seemingly waiting outside our front door. It did not seem to want anything from us and eventually hopped away.

Good morning from handicapped parakeet Lego, who has decided to leave the coconut and visit the playground and its seed dish. Unfortunately some goofball with a phone scared her and she's hiding until he goes away.

Happy Tuesday from very interesting parakeet Pilar (left) and his girlfriend/possible sister Fartwaffle.

Like Lego, Splayolito is handicapped - - he's splay-legged because his mother sat on him too aggressively when he was a baby. Unlike Lego, Splayolito can fly well and land with relative ease.

Handicapped parakeet Lego would like to remind you that while Pilar is interesting, she is MORE interesting. She is blue, the color of the sky and fun cocktails, while he is yellow, the color of bananas and pee
Also Pilar may be dating his own sister (Fartwaffle).

Of course, lot of toads -- most notably Marine Toads -- have been known to engage in amplexus with dead toads, other dead animals, other live animals, beer cans, and anything else that, through the toad's hormone-fogged eyes, resembles another toad. The Snouted Toad actually does it to reproduce.

Pilar (below) has asked me to remind everyone that he is just as attractive as handicapped parakeet Lego and should be posted regularly. So here you go.

Yesterday, handicapped parakeet Lego discovered that photos of her tail feathers sticking out of the coconut (while she hides from the camera) don't get any likes, so today she has conquered her fear and come to the door.
August 7, 2025 at 3:51 PM
Handicapped parakeet Lego appears to be hiding today. I wonder where she went?
August 6, 2025 at 6:18 PM
Handicapped parakeet Lego was minding her own business when someone startled her by filling all of the food dishes. She had to go hide under a cage stand for a while, but she's doing better now.

We are still uncertain whether Aoife O'Birdovan'relationship with Scooter (the grey parakeet on her right, who is probably either her son or grandson) is purely feeding-related or something deeper, but we hope it's the former because eew.
July 30, 2025 at 7:30 PM
From her preferred vantage point in the coconut, handicapped parakeet Lego would like to wish you an excellent weekend.
July 25, 2025 at 7:48 PM
Handicapped parakeet Lego is visiting the roof of the white bird cage today - a journey of roughly four feet from her usual perch that involves negotiating a variety of surfaces. We are pleased that she is out and about.

Hello from lovers (and possible relatives) Fartwaffle (left, female) and Pilar (right, male). And yes, that's Lego in the background.
July 17, 2025 at 1:59 PM
Good morning from handicapped parakeet Lego.
July 17, 2025 at 12:43 PM
This is Ixchel, our elder statesman Bourke Parakeet. He's more than 18 years old!
July 16, 2025 at 4:40 PM
Handicapped parakeet Lego says hello! Today she has been hanging out on the bridge between cages with her friends Splayolito (blue, left) and Speckle (white with black and grey bars, center). She is still very frightened of the camera.

A few weeks ago when I cleaned Twinkle's enclosure, I accidentally broke a chunk off of the faux-bark backdrop. He promptly went behind it and only came out at night to hunt. This weekend he finally made a daytime appearance.
July 14, 2025 at 12:51 PM
Scooter, the beautiful grey, black and white parakeet at the top of the photo, thinks he has finally found a mate! Unfortunately, it's Aoife, the white parakeet at the bottom left who is either his mother or grandmother. Trinculo (bottom right), his father or grandfather, is not impressed.
July 1, 2025 at 8:50 PM
Say hello to Splayolito, our *other* special needs parakeet. Splayolito's mother sat on him and his brother Splayo a bit too aggressively and they wound up with splayed legs. We bound both birds' legs. Splayo got better but Splayolito chewed his bindings off every day.
June 26, 2025 at 6:41 PM
Handicapped parakeet Lego is alive and well and thriving. She spends at least half of every day in the coconut, observing her small but busy world.
