Managing Editor @titanbooks.bsky.social. Ran multiple award-winning Unsung Stories. Writer: HINTERLANDS @blackshuckbooks.bsky.social. European (yes, still). Empathy, compassion & ice cream pls.
Just finished the pleasingly weird Mordew by @alexpheby.bsky.social. Shoo-in for any fans of Bas Lag or Gormenghast out there. Also the finest glossary I’ve seen in a long while. A slippery weave of arcane and abstruse sophistry and inalienable truths.

Had a great time with TRADWIFE by @tcparker.bsky.social. True crime social horror bringing The Handmaid’s Tale even closer to home, extremely smart riffs on the reportage style/structure to boot. Thank you @almakatsu.bsky.social for the nod!

Mild melting moment to discover my local library has the Unsung edition of THE CORAL BONES by E J Swift. Then showing my kid my name in the acknowledgements! Peak imposter syndrome. 🥸 Good people of Wood Street, check this bad boy out though, you won’t regret it!

IT LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVES! Behold the glorious majesty of BASILISK! All the House of Leaves/Nabokov/Rian Hughes fans of the world, I implore you to check this out. It’s the gleefully enticing nightmare rabbit hole you’ve only just realised you’re craving.

Today is nakedly dystopian adverts on the tube and a right-wing sleeper cell activating inside the Labour Party apparently.

Artisan - I hope you fail rapidly & dramatically.

Blue Labour - if you want to have a political party there's a hollowed out Conservative husk you could inhabit instead.

CCG nerds, can I pick your brains? Can someone point to the correct wiki/card list for the other Middle Earth game, the one before the films came out? I’ve got a lot of these, not sure where people buy/sell CCGs these days.

Literally, these are the bits of policy the OfS based their ruling on. Now I get (a) - 'positively' being the issue specifically - but honestly, if you're having trouble working with the other three my protected belief is you need to check yourself.

The 'chilling effect' line is horrendous as well. The 'chilling effect' is specifically that you shouldn't do 'transphobic abuse, harassment or bullying' or distribute 'abusive, bullying or harassing material' because it might restrict your rights to commit harm on a human being.

An extremely sexy and deeply deserved ⭐ for THE GRIMOIRE GRAMMAR SCHOOL PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION over at Publishers Weekly!

Dark Star was the first of Oliver's work I read - so probably the better example - which opens with:

Time to waste, so I escape the city
At one of those seedy establishments
They call 'Glow Shows' because they fill the girls
So full of Pro' it nearly burns their veins

COLD SNAP by Lindy Ryan. So here’s the thing, this excellent novella needs some love out there IRL. Because apparently Publishing is weird and unpredictable.

Slippery, weird, trippy, sparse and unreliable narrated. It’s a chilling and deeply affecting study of grief and survivor guilt.
