In 2010, British lawyer Polly Higgins (1968-2019) requested the UN-Law Commission recognise ecocide as an international crime, but it refused. She said 'Ecocide leads to resource depletion: where there is escalation of resource depletion, war comes. Ecocide can be regarded as a crime against peace.'

Wadden Sea National Park (est. 2010) in western Denmark protects marine & terrestrial life; a resting place for millions of migratory birds in marshlands. It has more than 500 species of flora & fauna. There are tidal channels, tidal flats, stream mouths, beach meadows, sand plains & dunes.

Mols Bjerge National Park (est. 2009) in eastern Denmark has heath & forest areas that protect more than 50% of the indigenous, wild flora species of the region with remnants of an ancient forest. The coastal zone has kelp forests that sustain an array of marine life. Fauna & fungi are diverse.

Thy National Park (est. 2007) in northeastern Denmark consists of ecosystems of dunes & heath, which sustain unique regional flora & fauna. Threats include habitat alteration like drainage & invasive conifers, climate change, farm runoff & insufficient funding for conservation efforts.

Nosy Ve-Androka National Park (est. 2018) just off the coast of southern Madagascar is spits & atolls surrounded by coral reefs; the 3rd largest on the planet with 140 species of coral & 240 species of fish. There are Coelacanths, dugongs, dolphins & whales & beaches used by nesting sea turtles.
