Yes there were wards containing iron lungs. Medieval in appearance but the only thing that kept those affected by polio alive.

Yes I nursed people in the 60’s with diphtheria. Images never leave me. Please vaccinate your children so you don’t live with such images.

I remember in my childhood . 1950’s!
We were relieved to get polio vaccines when Dr Salk discovered. No more images of kids in iron lungs. Sounds medieval. And they looked terrifying.
But a few years later and none of the kids in our age group in Canada suffered with polio.
