A great article describing how the FAAM Airborne Laboratory was recently used to calibrate the EarthCARE satellite. We were flying and making measurements in the same part of the cloud that was simultaneously observed by the satellite. Time and location coordination had to be just right! 🧪
Scientists are decoding clouds from space, improving weather and climate predictions using NCAS’s research aircraft and the EarthCARE satellite. The VERIFY project will calibrate the satellite, which is looking at how clouds, aerosols and solar radiation interact to affect the Earth’s atmosphere.
