When I was a student at Berkeley in the early 80's I remember a conversation with a student protest organization that drew lines between Central America, Cuba, Angola (ok I'm listening), Eastern Europe, and the CIA assassination of John Lennon (wtf?) Thiel's op-ed in the FT is reminiscent.

happens a lot but going on X this AM (for my job) & seeing it filled to the absolute brim w/ people culture warring over the LA fires and using the disaster to score political points before the thing is remotely contained activates the full doomer instinct in me. the black heart of american culture.
