This is a huge loss. I attended a lecture of his some years back where I saw first hand just how life- changing (and life-saving) his inclusive interpretation of Islam was and is for queer and trans Muslims. He was a man of profound courage, determination and love.

It is deeply antisemitic and racist to exploit the synogogue attack to expand state power while doing nothing real to combat antisemitism (or Islamophobia or Queerphobia for that matter). The proposed laws are authoritarian and pretending otherwise is naive at best /fin
