Never satisfied with status quo, fierce protector of Democracy and ethics. Geneticist, policy research, HEOR.
T-minus 30 days! This move is bittersweet—we came with much excitement and hope and while it wasn’t all bad, our memories of this place will always be clouded by the passing of family friends right after we moved. Looking forward to new happier memories to make ahead.

25 boxes of books packed—not done yet. Thinking it may be 45 by the time they are all packed. The last house (with the library) we arranged by Library of Congress. Now I’m leaning toward Dewey Decimal so authors’ books are roughly staying together. Thoughts? #booksky #librarians #homelibrary

Morning solitude birdwatching. Looking forward to a different perspective in a month, but moving (even when welcomed) is exhausting and stressful.

Love the first outing in new shoes! They make you run faster, right? Remembering my best friend who would have loved shoes this color.

Actively working to start the day calm and at peace by bird watching from my sunroom. This morning have seen cardinals, blue jays, bluebirds, and a host of smaller songbirds.

Stayed up reading A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. The first time in a very, very long time that a book has simultaneously enthralled me with the writing while I was gutted at the story. Equal in parts horrifying and beautiful. Ugly-Cried through at least 50%. 5⭐️ highly recommend. 😭

Vacation means chipping away at the ever growing, 2000+ “to-read” list on @thestorygraph.com First checked off was The Book of the Unnamed Midwife by @megelison.bsky.social Dark, haunting, and so very, very good.

Comply or don’t comply. Either way, patients are losing. The real question is if you maintain ethical principles when they’ve been labeled illegal.

American Medical Association is providing regular updates on bird flu and other infectious diseases on YouTube. I highly recommend subscribing to their page, especially since CDC has been axed by FOTUS #Voices4Victory

Practicing self care this weekend on the heels of all the things this week. Homemade focaccia, painting, knitting, & family time. Looking forward to playing in the snow tomorrow. Monday is when I’m back fighting injustice.

Know your worth and add tax. I don’t know who to attribute this quote to, but it’s worth repeating.

Dobby is disgruntled at cold weather, vet appointments, and attacks on democracy and human decency. But she’s totes adorbs in her snowsuit!

Glad for some of my favorite people (looking at you @drlindseyfitz.bsky.social ) who create starter packs for folks to follow. Looking forward to creating a genetics/public health/bioethics one in the upcoming days if someone doesn’t beat me to it 🙂

My heart is breaking for colleagues impacted by these actions.
At this time, I'm unaware of any immediate action we can take to stop the OPM order placing federal employees in agency Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility offices on leave.

Important to note that this order does not destroy Schedule A hiring authority.

If anyone’s looking for alternatives to GoodReads, I highly recommend StoryGraph. It’s owned by a black woman, and the platform is so much more accessible and easy to use.
