Oh my God.

It just doesn't end with these people, does it?

How is this conversation a thing?

Worse than insipid performance; I can say with near certainty that the people of Palestine would not particularly appreciate us not enjoying the food we have as a function of support for them.

Go support the Palestinians in their land; first thing they’ll do is feed you more than they can afford.

I think that’s why Bill Waterson quit. Something like that, but maybe the inverse: He wanted to draw that way and The Man wouldn’t let him.

I’m sure the paper is very interesting, but yeah, like you say: read theory

Then you don’t have to recreate the wheel.

I mean:

"Man is the creature who does not know what to desire, and he turns to others in order to make up his mind. We desire what others desire because we imitate their desires."

For social media platform purposes, it’s funnier to look to René Girard’s (as in Peter Thiel’s mentor) theory of mimetic desire, because doing so makes Thiel’s early involvement in things like Facebook sorta hysterical—As Matt Sitman put it, turns out the Like Button literally has a patron saint.

Isn’t that basically the same argument for chattel slavery over a wage labor system?

The alcohol and hookup culture sounds weird… until you remember the whole “pandemic thing” that kept them at home and out of social spaces.

Or is that too sciency? Need more vibes?

Dang. I didn’t see the picture at first and had assumed oversized Fight Club blueblockers. I’m disappointed.

Can we somehow get our literary and journalistic establishment to stop bringing in their most talented photographers to make him look mysterious and intriguing?

I thought he said he wasn’t even invited to the inauguration?

"I like terrorists who don't light themselves on fire while—"

Wait, wut?

Well, in the absence of an overarching sovereign that performs, we all become the executors of the law of nature, yeah?

Evaluating if the sovereign is doing its job does a lot of heavy lifting there, though, don’t it?
June 2, 2025 at 2:27 PM
It’s really messed up. No lie. It’s honestly one of the most if not the most condescending things I have ever seen, and I traffic in highly rarefied crap.

The *really* funny part, though, is that I only got my hands on a copy because the ex-girlfriend of one of my committed atheist housemates was trying to get him to watch it, ostensibly to convert him.

Which is absolutely not sane. It fascinated me that she had no idea how offensive the movie is.
April 22, 2025 at 3:14 AM
People understand now, of course. But that’s bad.
April 22, 2025 at 3:09 AM
Well, then you’ve got the answer to why they would do that to themselves; or, rather, why I would do it to them. ;)

It was like 10+ years ago when it was big on bootleg and if you’ve seen it, then you know that there is no way to explain even just the plot without sounding like a hater-bigot, yeah?

That memo reminds me of how Justin Rose and some others speak of the Canadian troops who built a fully outfitted floor hockey rink at Kandahar base in Afghanistan in hushed tones of reverence, as though speaking of benevolent gods.
