One of the design goals for Cynder #RPG was a game that you could actually finish. You sit down with your friends to play a few sessions with some long-term and short-term goals guiding you to your ultimate objective, something like a major dungeon looming in your plans.

Cynder uses morale points (MP) instead of hit points to reflect that not every battle is a fight to the death, and to encourage fighting through your mistakes. Dropping to zero MP means you are badly hurt, scared, or pushed to your limits, but you fight on! On your next turn you stand back up. 1/x

Cynder is our upcoming #TTRPG coming to #Kickstarter about small heroes on big adventures. You play as the classically smaller folks of fantasy RPGs exploring a dangerous new world and fighting fearsome monsters. We have been working on this a long time and will have more to share all month.

Started with the #sketchrequest and then filled out the rest with #fanart of various shows and games. I like the Pomni in the center. It really ties the set together. Some of these outfits are really difficult to draw with references only from a certain perspective. Names in alt text.

Making an RPG book takes a long time. Work on Orobos took about 2 years. Our team usually works on more than one project at once so that we can smoothly transition from one to the next. I am excited to announce our next book is called Cynder! It is a game about small heroes on big adventures.

I also kept all of my old work from around high school onward. I have A LOT more character ideas like the first one with hotdog limbs and odd proportions. Good memories. You do get better with practice! The second League sketch is a few years later when friends got really into that game.

There are still a few days left to pick up any or all of our books at 30% off in our start of summer sale! We have adventures in space, stories inspired by Celtic folklore, and more.

Had a bit of fun with this exercise #sketching from memory without references. One long, goofy train of thought. I am quite fond of the round chickens. Give it a shot yourself and see what you can make!

I will continue to post smaller updates here when reasonable. The next big update to the Kickstarter page should be in about two weeks at the 4-week mark after the campaign ended. In the meantime, check out our original (old) character sheet mockup by @penfrei.bsky.social!

A behind-the-scenes look at how we made some of the art from our first book in 2015. When we first got started on Rao, I did a lot of concept art to nail down the themes and styles of our world. The team did a great job translating that into the final illustration.

The dice giveth and the dice taketh away. The Tempest archetype rides the highs and lows of luck and chaos as they leap across the battlefield. Turn fate in your favor! Art by @battletailors.bsky.social. Check in with us tomorrow for some exciting news on the Kickstarter campaign!

There is never a dull moment in Orobos. Whenever you take a risky action, you must roll the chaos dice. These d6 represent things like bad luck and enemy sabotage. Each 4+ result gives the GM resources to activate enemies, trigger hazards, and introduce more drama into the scene.

Knowing how to use the environment to your advantage is essential to victory in Orobos Championship Tournament. You can create new terrain to block enemies or create cover, jump over obstacles, and smash your foes into walls for extra damage. Art by @fedoraspooky.bsky.social

Not every fighter in #OCT engages in direct combat. The enchanter manipulates their enemies with status effects, forced movement and illusions. They can even transfer negative statuses from themselves to enemies. Art by @telmand.bsky.social #skirmish #tabletop #ttrpg

The fey are creatures of passion driven by strong emotions like fear, joy, and anger. Some might be whimsical or ethereal elves of classic fantasy, but others embrace their dark impulses to make mischief and cruelty just to experience something new. Most are somewhere in the twilight shades betwixt.

In #skirmish style combat, each team deploys their figures along a designated side of the play area. The shadow archetype has a special ability that lets them deploy on any side except enemy territory to set up the perfect ambush. What abilities will you combine to get the edge in OCT?

Many of us shared our first works online as part of an original character tournament back in the day. I have a lot of fond memories about those times, and the wonderful art community that allowed me to experiment and grow as an artist. It is also how I met the artists who worked on our first book!
