It does bother me how much talk about censorship ignores that school libraries in general and often specifically pretty tame middle grade romances are the front lines of censorship

Two things I forgot to post here: shirtless Enzo, and Jess with a brighter shade of pink for her hair (to match her amigurumi).

Unsolicited hot take of the night: Power Rangers is NOT an inferior bastardization of Super Sentai, it SHOULD be engaged with on its own merits, and you CAN'T get people to check out Sentai by insulting their love of PR and dumping 50+ years of genre homework on them.

With Pokemon, any Fakemon I design that aren't tied to an existing Pokemon (or other series concept) just end up going into Vindictus Virtuous.

I'm not having this problem with Digimon, for whatever reason.

Pre-ordering Kotobukiya's Iris model kit gives me an excuse to share an anecdote from around 2012, revolving around Iris, of why plot-critical information needs to be in the main body of the work.

So, Iris and Colonel are two halves of what would've been the ultimate peacekeeper.

A figure or model kit of Iris (Megaman X4) was something I'd been hoping for since the early '10s... and then I would've totally missed Koto's Iris kit if Dad and I hadn't checked AmiAmi tonight. :U She's getting a permanent spot on my computer desk.

So, when I said uBlacklist stopped working--no, you just have to manually allow it to access DDG and other search engines. (For now.)

There are now vast swathes of nothing where images should be, because my point about AI slop (and Pinterest) pollution still stands.

Mom and I just finished watching the first Zeiram movie (as much as I dislike streaming, it's on Tubi and we don't have it on DVD).

I really liked it!.. Zeiram, sadly, is not Mom's kind of movie. XD;

I'd like to share this old video of hers, where she talks about her time working on the 3DO port of Doom.
it's a wild story that stuck with me, and a reminder that sometimes "bad games" have amazing people working on them

With the passing of Rebecca Heineman today, I wanted to share some images from her last, now forever unfinished project. She was working on amazing stuff right up until the end.

It was Dragon Wars remastered.

Jennell Jaquays was art directing.

Rebecca Heineman doesn't have much time left. If you can, please donate for her and her family to make end of life arrangements.
One last kindness we can offer for a legend of the games industry and loud and proud trans woman:

Guess it's one of those "try not to destructively and uselessly spiral over the news/the absence of justice" nights.

Or weeks. Or months.

DDG's image search, EVEN WITH "Hide AI Images" turned on, is so polluted with AI slop as to be functionally useless. UBlacklist helped with this for a while, but then it stopped working. Ecosia isn't any better.

We desperately need a "small web only" image search.

[spins the Wheel of ADHD]

"Cyborged!" (1994) was a compelling start to a Star Trek: TNG/Classic Doctor Who crossover, and I'm bummed that it never made it past a few short chapters.

Like--Picard as a former companion? Data having classified info on the Cybermen, and all that implies?

Getting my scanner up and running again proved less complicated than I thought (and now I can actually save output as a PNG instead of it auto-spitting out bitmaps). Using Photopea... well, I'm not a fan of nagware, nor of its "generate with AI" button.

Came across those two Big Dog Pokemon parody plushes on eBay (at least, I think they only made two) and it got me thinking about how you don't really see that kind of thing anymore.

(Also, that "Blastdog" having fire hydrants for shell-cannons is pretty clever.)

"Pokemorphs" update: well, it failed to coalesce into anything useful. HOWEVER, the basic idea of "region with both 'Earthlike' Pokemon and unspeakable horrors" is working out a lot better.
October 18, 2025 at 9:51 PM
Inadvisable ROM hack idea, inspired by Digimon Crystal: Pokemon/Animorphs fusion. As in, this region's Pokemon are one step above mundane animals and your "team" is your registered morphs.

What? There was an Animorphs GBC game that was more-or-less that? You must be misremembering.

Linux impressions: different from Windows (obviously), but I like it so far. For one, it can actually update without my computer chugging horribly or (always) needing to restart.

With Win11 leaning even harder into AI BS, I have no plans to go back.

Linux migration: maybe about 45%-ish complete? Gonna be busy copying files over for [undefined length of time].
