Looking for people who work with their hands in #Virginia. From #RVA to #757 to #Nova to #Cville and Beyond.

I've been turning down work across the state. Home assembly and warranty repair.

If you're trying to survive in a #gigworkers economy let's talk.

I keep finding small details to add to communicate just a little more information. There's one more I'm debating on but I think I'll leave it. I'm pretty satisfied with this.

Ask me questions!

I've been working on developing a style to represent castles three-dimensionally

I always thought the isometric design of the original Castle Ravenloft was a good start. But I wanted something that was structurally sound as well

This castle will be included in the current adventure I'm writing.

I'll be running a game next month in Richmond at Ric Roll Con

In my 45 years plus running games I've designed many of my own adventures but have never before formally put them down to paper before

I've never cared for the two column format, nor the small print popular in many #ttrpg publications.

Made a quick set of modular tiles to make running it Ravenloft easier
May 28, 2025 at 2:47 PM
I have become an immense fan of minimalist but functional modular #Terrain for #ttrpgs.

It's not glamorous, but how it speeds up gameplay has to be experienced to be fully appreciated.

It simultaneously solves tedious mapping issues while preserving #fogofWar

First floor of Castle Ravenloft.

Here's the first floor of Castle #Ravenloft in all its glory laid out with a 1-in grid.

Minimalist but functional!

Decided to knock out some quick tiles to make running it easier.

I played a character in Ravenloft when it was first released in 1983.

Now I'm getting ready to DM it.

But I'm retheming it to the Winter King's Castle as a sequel to Winter's Daughter from Necrotic Gnome, where the party will attempt to free Princess Autumn at Dusk.

Elevation is one of the things that is commonly missing in cavern maps.

This is what I call a "Star Trek" cavern where the floor is perfectly smooth for practical reasons but the walls have interest.

Developing my massive under dark mapping and terrain system!
May 4, 2025 at 2:08 PM
The goal from the beginning was to design a Dungeon Masters tool that could quickly create maps of The Underdark", doing justice to scale.

And creating a physical system to build those maps out.

We are no longer limited to traditional print limitations of the 1970s. Adventure maps don't have to fit on a single page with a quarter inch grid.

Caverns are not limited to 10 or 20 ft width. My mapping and terrain system is designed to create breathtaking underground layouts

You can either improvise your layout, or build it from a map design with the Genehex Modular Terrain System tiles and risers.

Here's a #TTRPG cavern layout for a 6' table using the Genehex Modular Terrain System. I've created a gradient version for mood

Relatively smooth passage ranges from 30' to 60' wide with elevations on either side. Stalagmites every 15' with 10' in between

A massive 3D environment

My original inspiration for creating a modular cavern tile system was Descent into the Depths of the Earth.

But my inspirations for how it should feel included Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Something far beyond the bounds of a typical published module

I've drawn a cross-section of what modular terrain system is meant to emulate.

Party is traveling through immense cavern complex underneath the mountain range. The scope is meant to feel like Moria or Journey to the Center of the Earth.

No mere 10 ft wide passages worming through the mountain.

Part of the power of the Genehex Modular Terrain System is the ability to create maps that you are then able to quickly build on your table

While this is not a build of the map you're seeing, you can see how the shapes translate. Color coding your maps tells you how to build your elevations

I use the Genehex Modular Terrain System not only for improvisational layout but also create my #maps using the system

Here's a cavern 200 ft across with elevated ledges around the perimeter

Icons spaced 15 ft on center (3 inches) here represent stalagmites and other surface irregularities
