Most people are scared because they don't know the limits of what we can do w/ DNA. Many fear things that just aren't currently possible, like cloning humans or creating enough artificial DNA to plant at a crime scene. I'll admit we don't know future possibilities, but nothing currently worries me.

At this point, there really isn't much anyone can do with SNP data that is truly nefarious. The most serious threat is determining risk for certain diseases and traits, but even then many countries have laws protecting consumers (like GINA in the US and GDPR in the EU).

I didn't exist yet, but my sister was being born when it happened and apparently a nurse ran into the room to scream "It blew up! It blew up!", freaking out my mom because she thought they were talking about the baby.
