Esther continually deadnamed Brianna during the call and honestly if you didn't already know what happened, you would have assumed suicide. There was no focus on external dangers or how we could combat them. The focus was purely about the dangers of how 'obsessed with social media' she was.

I mean the plane got scrapped so putting the fuel in recycling makes total sense.

Anyway I don't have energy or will for more than 30 minutes of half-arsed research about this while sitting on the toilet, but someone should make a pedantic 3h video about this so that I can watch it and feel good about myself.

But I see those massive promises and "oh it's fine the data centers here are a stage but we'll migrate them to space" and all and like. What the f? Am I missing something? And I know I should expect a scam these days, but it still bugs me.

And I haven't been informed of sudden massive advancements in, I don't know, viable large-scale liquid droplet radiators (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_...) or something.

Like ye space "is cold" but there's no air, you're stuck with either radiation - which means massive radiators and probably lots of liquids (and remember the @wtyppod.bsky.social's motto, _everything leaks_), or ejecting coolants (which means you have a consumable now).

I'm sure it makes sense to put larger computers in space - but I don't see how your Manhattan-sized data center can be done there. Because that light that you want heats you, because the "free power" comes with massive panel arrays that induce drag, and because cooling in space is hard.

Our usual Musky Boy is also getting involved, of course: arstechnica.com/space/2025/1...
Note, again, basically no radiators to be seen on these.

They're putting up a demonstrator the "size of a fridge" which is like... not really much of a demonstrator. Oh, it might demonstrate how well radiation and impact shielding works, sure, it might even demonstrate it makes sense to put one or two fancy GPUs on a satellite. But cooling 4GW?

Like look at this blogs.nvidia.com/blog/starclo...! Where are the radiators! Is it in a sun-synchronous orbit? How high is it, what's the drag on those massive panels? How bad is the latency, especially considering how they sell "being able to talk to your SAR directly" or something.

Not that I’m surprised, but wow that’s grim 😞
