Before us rises a small palace of pale stone that seems to gleam in the morning sun. Two guards stand out front in full armor, facing forward with fine tabards embroidered with the crest of a rampant lion. As I step past them, my amulet jumps against my skin. Those aren’t real guards—they’re an illusion. Nymon’s a smart monster. He likes to hide in plain sight. Currently, he’s taken on the guise of a Duke of the city—even though he keeps his manor on Flesh Peddler’s Lane. But what better place for an incubus to call home? I can’t think of one. Smirking, I open the large oak door—which is, of course, unlocked. There’s no doubt in my mind that the moment I stepped through that outer gate, Nymon knew I’d arrived. He has that way about him. He always seems to know what I’m doing. Always seems to show up just when I need him. I suppose that’s what friends are for. Maybe I actually have two friends.

I took a break from my normal writing schedule to try out dictation & write a novella that is essentially The Witcher + Anita Blake w/ an FMC that is all out of fucks to give but is forced to save her bestie from a vampire & the MMC is a hot werewolf thief. I'm trying to write A Crown of Rime and Ashes, and every time I pause to take a beat, I get scene ideas for the sequel to Bound by Blood and Shadows. So far I've got a descent into madness, a creepy ballroom scene during a masquerade, and spooky shadows everywhere. Gah.

TikTok’s Owner Wanted to Publish Books. Not Anymore. 8th Note Press informed writers and agents that it is abruptly shutting down and returning publication rights to authors. “They’re wrecking careers in the process of doing this,” he said of 8th Note. “If you’re an author and this is your first book, what the history is going to show is that your book published and quickly went out of print.” 8th Note’s precipitous fall was surprising, given its parent company’s vast resources and reach. Just last year, the press seemed poised to expand. Last October, its executives announced a partnership with the publisher Zando to put out print editions of its books and distribute them to physical bookstores. The plan was to release 10 to 15 titles a year, with a focus on romance, romantasy and young adult fiction. Later, the imprint indicated to agents that it was expanding into science fiction and fantasy. Representatives for 8th Note Press and ByteDance did not respond to requests for comment, and representatives for Zando declined to comment.
