38. Metroid Fusion (2002): It's fiiine. I can see why it's such a divisive title since it's not much of a Metroidvania. I did enjoy my time with it, it has some very high highs, but the lows are very low

37: Hammerin Harry: Ghost Building Company (1992): The best Game Boy game not made by the big N. Genuinely impressive that they got a game that looks better than the NES counterpart running on the piece of shit original Game Boy. Big coding wizardry. Intense cover art

36: Kid Icarus: Of Myth and Monsters (1991): The next 15 games or so are all gonna be smaller titles I've been churning through while also playing a really long one on the side that I haven't finished yet. This one is basically the og Kid Icarus but slighty less silly and slightly more competent

35: G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero (1991): Here it is, the last NES game from my marathon! By the end of it I has ran out of masterpieces and went through games that are solid B tiers and this is no exception. Incredibly brutally difficult towards the end but satisfying. Bosses are a high point

34. Gun-Dec (1991): An homage to Sunsoft's great made when Sunsoft was still pumping those out. It has everything good from the era but it's easier than its contemporaries which makes it a good point of entry. I didn't care for the shooting segments but they were over in like 20 seconds

33. Magic John (1990): I swear we're reaaaally close to finishing up with my NES backlog, never games will happen soon. Anyways this one is slightly janky but very well executed. I particularly like th boss sprites and how slimy looking they look. B tier

32: Summon Night Swordcraft Story 2 (2004): Much much better than its predecessor on literally every way, I actually finished this one. The only real problem it has is that the dungeon and map disgn is TERRIBLE, if it had good map it'd be a cult classic. As is, 8/10

31: Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link (1987): I was actually enjoying it more than the original up and until the last 1/5 of the game, where it gets insanely evil for no reason. Probably the hardest game Nintendo themselves ever made. An adquired taste for sure but kinda misunderstood

30. Kid Icarus (1986): The Hawaiian Pizza of the NES library. You either love it and defend it to the death or you think it's an affront to the laws of design themselves. It came about when Nintendo was experimenting with the rules to see what you can do with a platformer. Personally, I loved it

29: Tiny Toon Adventures (1991): A game mostly famous nowadays because Konami bought a copy of Mario 3, dissected it and reversed engineered the code to produce this. It's not Konami's best game or anything, but it's honestly pretty good. Short, sweet, and with quite the high production value

28: Guevara (1987): Yes, a game in which you play as Che Guevara and Fidel Castro taking back Cuba as a two man army packing heat. And you know what? It slaps. It's one of the best games on the system. Extremely forward thinking design. In the west it got renamed Guerrilla War but this is cooler

27. Toki: Going Ape Spit (1991): Serious contender for best title of all time. It's weird to think of nowadays but this game was a throwback to the game design of 5-6 years previous. Design concepts moved so fast back then vs now. Anyways it's a total hidden gem on the system
February 4, 2025 at 5:57 PM
26: Yo! Noid (1990): Funniest videogame in history contender. Capcom essentially asset stripped a random game they had laying around in Japan, put Domino's pizza mascot of the time as the protagonist and went all in. I think a lot of people are turned off by the silliness but idk I dig it

25: Formula One: Built to Win (1990): Basically Gran Turismo but old(er). I don't think racing games of this era have aged very well but this one is as good as they come. Which means it was quite pleasant for a couple hours but I don't have a desire to revisit it

24. Snake Rattle N Roll (1990): I was ready to call this a hidden gem until the last like 3 levels or so where it gets wayyy too evil, even by old game standards. Just unreasonable. Happy I beat it but never again. It is a very interesting stepping stone in British game design however
January 27, 2025 at 9:43 PM
23. Felix the Cat (1992): They really were just picking up any random license they could get their hands on back in the NES days. I am not that big of a fan of Hudson's 8 bit output but this one is quite solid. Almost feels like it hates being stuck on the NES, the game has outgrown the system

The translators of the game I'm playing were having a little bit too much fun
January 27, 2025 at 5:46 PM
22. Battletoads&Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team (1993): Extremely overlooked Battletoads sequel, probably because the first Battletoads scared all the hoes away and because Double Dragon was a very washed brand by 1993, but this is much better than the sum of its parts
January 15, 2025 at 5:54 AM
21. Kabuki Quantum Fighter (1990): Where has this game been all my life??? Why wasn't this popular back in the day? Maybe because of that godawful cover or bizarre cyberpunk premise. But it's made by HAL and they rarely disappoint so I should have seen it coming
January 15, 2025 at 5:54 AM
20. Adventure Island 4 (1994): The very last Famicom game ever released, more than 11 years after the console came out. The story of its developement is pretty interesting and the game ain't half bad. More cute than impressive but quite mechanically solid. Good curiosity
January 15, 2025 at 5:54 AM
19. Bubble Bobble 2 (1993): Extremely obscure sequel to the 80s giga-fad game. Probably the most straightforward of all Bubble Bobble sequels, basically just more of the first one with better everythingBarely anyone has ever played it but it's worth it
January 12, 2025 at 9:42 PM
18. Treasure Master (1991): Look at that cover, zoo wee mama. Total time capsule. This game was released as a contest by MTV where if you beat it the quickest at a specific date you could win 10 grand. The game itself I think gets pretty snuffed, very fun hidden gem even if a bit jank
January 11, 2025 at 8:36 PM
17. Summon Night Swordcraft Story (2003): Nothing ever happens the videogame. I tried to like it really hard but it's so slow and it takes hours for the smallest breadcrumb of anything to occur. I have been told the sequel is much better paced so ill play that instead
January 9, 2025 at 12:25 PM
16. Drill Dozer (2005): Game so peak I actually went back and completed it 100% even tho I beat it some days ago. It looks much worse during gameplay than it it is to play. It plays proper good, it's crazy. And very tough. Enthusiasts only tho. Probably the only good game Gamefreak has ever made
December 26, 2024 at 6:40 PM
15. Super Mario Party: Jamboree! (2024): I don't know what constitutes as beating a Mario Party game but I've unlocked a lot of it and played it a reasonable amount so I'll say it counts (even if I'll continue using it). Better than Super but worse than Superstars, it's mechanically scattered
