Trying to go into X to find relevant or inspiring content (rather than just being inundated by Nazi dogwhistles-turned-bullhorns) is like going to Home Depot to buy eggs. It makes no sense and will probably just end in tears.

Check in BIOS to see if it's in a RAID config by default.. apologies if you already did that..

Hey, depending on what they are charging you, you may be better off buying a "new" refurbished machine from just a couple years ago for less than $200 on eBay. Let me know if you want any recommendations.

The frustrating thing is that I'm back to square one again on this, just dumped 200 into a new computer for the car, pre programmed with VIN so I didn't have to mess around with this crap. And im back to fumbling about with my multimeter for bad fuses or wires! Ugh.

You're probably gonna hate this but for the sake of removing potential complications from the VM and pass through, I installed w10 on a spare hard drive just to be sure, because the OBDLinkEx is windows native. Of course it still didn't work. Working with chatGPT on it, I think it might be wiring..

The attempt to do this with VM technology has mostly failed and to make things simple I'm biting the bullet and installing w10 on a spare hard drive. Alas Linux will probably sit this one out!

Yep, it's absolutely a combination of the end of Moores law and the relentless financialization of everything that causes Microsoft and other big tech companies to continue down a road of terrible policy and mission creep. Would rather force new machines instead of pulling bloat out of their code.
