That this sort of backlash is still very much a thing 20 odd years on is so frustrating and heartbreaking.

As a young adult in the early aughts I used to struggle with the belief that, because I could write decently, I should be a public voice for fat liberation. But I was never brave enough to weather the backlash.

I haven't seen the documentary yet but I am sending so much care and good vibes your way. What you do makes such a huge difference. It has done so for me and so many of the people I care about. You should not have to suffer abuse because a certain contingent is threatened by the power of your voice.
