@evandorkin.bsky.social - Just discovered SHAGGY & SCOOBY GET A CLUE on MeTV Toons this morning - do you know about this toon? The artwork, especially Shaggy, looks VERY familiar. Fun cartoon, just couldn’t help but notice. Huh.

I think that every time I watch YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, I forget that Gene Hackman is in it… (but he’s also great !) #moviesky

Right. So, Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu.

When it’s good, it’s great. Some shots will be emulated by others someday. Shadows and subterfuge, all executed perfectly.

But… the film also goes to extremes, lingers a second or two too long here and there. B+ but less > more could’ve been an A+.

Right. So, #Fluoride.

It shouldn’t even be up for debate, and yet here we are. As evidence, I suggest watching old school Doctor Who (Doctors #1 to #4, pick one), followed by The Great British Bake-off (Show). Look at the teeth. Same island, 50 years, one element (literally) changed, it’s Fluoride.

Post a movie you feel isn’t discussed enough.

The American Astronaut (2001)

I know what you’re thinking… yet ANOTHER black and white indie western musical set in outer space, but if you see one movie like that… this is a great place to start.

One of the most interesting aspects of this show is this implied idea that we will someday see some of these characters in live-action with the same actors - if David Harbour is done as Hellboy… at least someday we might see him as DC’s Frankenstein (‘s Monster), which is sort of close ?

Wrath of Khan was… “okay.” Not as Trekky goodness as the first, but a lot of sequels aren’t.

If you see this, post a mutant.

Post a VHS cover that scared you as a kid.

My small town video store kept this one behind the counter as an “adults only” horror rental (along with Demons and Fulci’s Zombi). I didn’t actually try watching it until this Halloween season - I didn’t finish.

The Yacht Rock documentary: “No other genre was named 20 years later”

Me: Garage Rock.

In the 1960s, it was just called “rock.” No one had thought yet of separating the less popular bands from the famous ones and calling it a separate genre until the 1980s. #rockmusic

Okay, so for the second half of The Beatles tetralogy, this is where the movies get trippy.

#3 George third - the psychedelica, Sgt Peppers, India

#4 John fourth and last - partly because John already has movies - plus this allows for a focus on Yoko - the final albums and years (2/2)

Okay, so The Beatles four part tetralogy is starting to get casting rumors, I thought I’d make my pitch for the order. This list is presuming the films will be at least loosely chronological:

#1 Paul first, from Hamburg to Yesterday.

#2 Ringo second - fun Hard Day’s Night era - overlaps w/ Paul

Three possibilities:

1 - Mario is Mario
2 - Mario is Conan
3 - Mario is… Alice ?

Unless you count the first Spider-Man. ;)

Yep. That’s what I’m saying. If anything, Conan is a third player in this game - dark fantasy, sword and sorcery, low fantasy.

I might also argue a fourth one is…

Conan the Barbarian.

Both the best, and the worst, thing to say about Damien Chazelle’s BABYLON is that it feels very much like a 1970s auteur’s epic about the 1920s or 1930s, which we can determine because there *were* movies like The Great Gatsby, Paper Moon, or The Day of the Locust. #moviesky
