I am currently reading too many books at once. The problem with being a new library worker and lifelong reader. Anyway this is actually a post about how The Thursday Murder Club is making me weep real tears every other chapter. I want to finish this before watching the movie but I might not make it.

I have been up most of the night, not a wink of sleep. I'm used to insomnia, but today seems different. No insomnia hangover (thus far), and plenty of hope in the air. Something is bound to go wrong. I can feel it.

Not hearing enough noise about Mahmoud Khalil from folks who like to quote the "first they came for" poem. Y'all get that the point is that they came for controversial, easily othered groups first, right? Now, it's trans people, immigrants, and student activists. Your turn will come. Fight now.

"I want to keep boycotting Amazon, but I also want to support indie authors. How do I do that?"

Many indie authors have their books on Barnes & Noble & Kobo! There are also places like Smashwords & Campfire that are almost all indie books! Itchio now has a THRIVING LGBTQ Indie Book Scene.

Okay, hear me out.

There's a storm from the Gulf of Mexico and it sails through the corn belt, right? It's a doozy. And it goes RIGHT THROUGH this massive industrial farm, get it? And all the toxic run off and the pesticides and everything get mixed up in it.

The new year rizz had me trying to do too much and I've had to pare back a lot. My apologies if I dropped the ball on things I said I'd do, I'm trying to work within my limits now

Not only do I feel for Neil Gaiman's victims, I also feel for all the people in publishing right now who have to work on his stuff in order to keep their jobs and make the rent. So many people make books happen--in publicity, marketing, school and library, editorial, production...all down the line.

I know we're still going to suffer under his presidency, but I love how he's currently pulling out the hair of that awful toupee over finding out after fucking around

Gentle reminder for myself and my fellow chronically ill, disabled, and neurodivergent creatives:

It's okay to create art at your own pace. Even really slowly.

Our bodies and brains work differently, and we need to give ourselves grace. I know it's hard to accept that, I struggle with it, too. ❤️

One of fascism's main tactics is to physically and mentally exhaust you. To flood the zone with outrageous bullshit, to make you bite on a dozen pump-fakes — so that when the real shot comes, you're too worn out to react.

We need to pace ourselves. It's only been a week. Alert fatigue is dangerous
