The "Reframing Dioramas" exhibit took my breath away. It's part of the PST ART festival: Art & Science Collide. What an arresting meta commentary on the role of museums and the practice of museum science. CHILLS
A diorama case is lit up in dayglo bright colors on a digital display. Many California animals cram into the foreground; some appear made of paper mache like piñatas while others light up inside. A staircase leads from the front of the diorama to the back directly down the middle. At the top of the stairs is a door. The sky above the door is lit up like sunrise. The same diorama as the first picture but the light display has shifted to a night scene. Stars are projected on the staircase. Different animals pop out from before, including vibrant plants in the foreground. The effect is dramatic and engrossing.
