Hi, I'm Gavin. Though my interests are quite varied & I will interact with things on social media that cover a wide array of topics, I find that I most often post thoughts about Wonder & my heart for a Christianity that is based on service & love. I'm fighting fascism in my own theological way.
I made a shirt for my next protest.

Music at the Super Bowl
My son wanted to have a couple friends over to watch the game yesterday. I'm not much of a football guy, but have really been keeping up with it this year cause he's so into it. I was looking forward to hearing Jon Batiste perform the National Anthem as he has become a favorite of mine these last few years. I knew he probably wouldn't be interweaving the Black National Anthem into it as I've seen him do elsewhere, but I was excited to see what he'd do with it.

I haven't been surprised by much Trump has done since becoming President again. He and his people have telegraphed most everything. I will say that though I'm not surprised, I'm truly horrified by it all. That being said, I am a bit shocked by how openly expansionist he has been so far.

In the midst of every crazy thing Trump has done so far, the tariffs announced today against our allies and friends to the north and south of us remind me how much he is just a bully.

Exactly 8 years ago (to the day), 10 days into President Trump's first term, I wrote the following. It's scary how similar my thoughts were then to where they are now, but things are so much more extreme now: "This last weekend, we finally sat down and watched an Indiana Jones movie…

Exactly 8 years ago (to the day), 10 days into President Trump's first term, I wrote the following. It's scary how similar my thoughts were then to where they are now, but things are so much more extreme now: "This last weekend, we finally sat down and watched an Indiana Jones movie with the kids. I remain convinced that The Last Crusade is the perfect action movie.

Had one of my friends with dementia come in to the day program this morning and share with me, "I had a dream, and it was that you were feeling responsible for yourself way more than anyone on this planet should." It was a word I needed. Amazing what we can receive from these folks we care for.

I keep seeing folks say that as a white straight christian male, I'm not going to have to deal with the fallout of Trump's presidency like my Black, LGBTQ, Hispanic, female, non-christian, or other minority brothers, sisters, or others.

What can I say, it's been a good week to finish the new Indiana Jones game on the Xbox. There's something cathartic about fighting nazis and fascists (even the cartoony indiana jones type).

The most common question I receive is how everyday citizens can help in the fight for democracy. My advice, take the first step, start with something small and see what works for you.

Here are ten things all of us can do.

As a Christian who grew up in the evangelicalism that has embraced Trump, I keep asking myself if the universe is just trolling me. I mean, I don't believe in the Anti-Christ anymore, but Trump and his folks just keep doing everything they can to change that.

I don't know if he's deluded, just a grifter, or something in between, but I watched a video of Sean Feucht talking about being at the worship service led by Bishop Budde posted on a friend's Facebook page. He called the Bishop a witch who was inspired by demons to bring her message. I just cannot.

There's a part of me that doubts myself. What if my right-wing Christian friends are right, and I've been led astray by the sin of too much empathy. Then I see Trump's and the right-wing response to Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde's call for mercy and realize that I truly am on the right side here.

Been studying up on King Saul in the book of 1 Samuel these last few days in preparation for teaching Confirmation tomorrow. Most of the rabbit holes I ran down are not going to come up in class, but, hoo boy, do they give me an interesting lense to view current events through.

Was grocery shopping for work this morning and had a young whippersnapper in his 20s tell me that he liked my 'fit'. Okay, I'm hip to the lingo these young folk are laying down*.

*Please tell me this was a compliment. I actually have no idea what this younger generation means when they talk.

A lovely January afternoon to be out in creation in the pnw. It's actually a little jarring to stand outside and experience this amazing beauty after watching scenes of such destruction on the news. It reminds me how much we take for granted and truly how fragile our world is.

For example: the Democratic Party accepting the results of the election and Vice President Harris presiding over the certification of President Trump's electoral votes was definitely the right thing. And yet...
A question I find myself pondering more and more: What happens when you do the right thing and things get worse instead of better?

Truly not ready for these next four years. I want to believe it's all bluster & trolling, & I know some of it actually is, but it's just too much. What I want to figure out is how to talk to the believers around me that see him as good & redirect them towards the Jesus of the gospels.

Please, everybody: more curiosity, less judgement! I know the social medias are not built for this, but it will truly be better for your soul.

There's something about the christmas season that takes me back to victorian times. I'm pretty sure it probably has something to do with Charles Dickens.

And though I often have passed them by
A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
