Mountain-going, biking, kayaker with two sons and a pathetic but charming vegetable garden. Former councillor, former SpAd. Working in an outdoor access charity. Current chair of Water of Leith Conservation Trust.
Only 4 weeks ago. 15 October. Sitting in warm sunshine in T-shirt on top of Sgorr Gaoith. We live in a wonderful weird wee country.

A meandering wander through West Lothian this morning in the spits of rain and unseasonal warmth. You can just about see my bike on the right here in the copper explosion of Almondell.

Lots of people here in Perth for @revivecoalition.bsky.social event “What Scotland wants: real land reform”. What @ramblersscotland.bsky.social wants are outdoor access rights where world class principles are matched by day to day reality for people walking in our wonderful country:

The Radical Road by Salisbury Crags in Edinburgh has been closed for far too long. Today’s site visit went through the plans for phase 1 reopening from the top end as far as Hutton’s Rock in the south quarry. Due by Spring 2026.

A fine weekend in the NW. Windy, sunny Fannichs on Friday. Wet camp in Cannich with Beauly river walk and the mighty Poozies in Kilmorack hall on Saturday. Farrar Four on Sunday in bright sunlight: Ben Lomond apart these were my first ever Munros back in 1981 aged 15!

It’s sandwiched between Coatbridge and Easterhouse but Drumpelier country park and the Monkland Canal prove yet again the surprising joy of these green oases in urban Scotland for a morning of walk and talk.

I was wearing both my @ramblersscotland.bsky.social hat and @wolct.bsky.social hat today in welcoming access professionals from across Scotland sharing good practice and lessons in path construction, maintenance and community engagement, through the Scottish Outdoor Access Network (SOAN).

I was a Corbett on my final Corbett: Sgurr Dhomhnuill!
August 18, 2025 at 9:53 AM
Thanks to @andywightman.scot and Cathy for accompanying me on my final Corbett, the magnificent Sgurr Domhnuill in Ardgour. Cathy and Andy were also on my last Munro in 2019 and me on theirs in 2022. So there is symmetry to keep up. Shall I mention the Donalds?
