I'm complicated. That's a good thing.
Finally managed book number six of the year, narrowly fulfilling my NY resolution to read at least six in a year. Phew! And I liked it. Short, and exactly as you'd expect from this author #BookSky

Not all electric kettles are created equal. We boiled litres of water to find the best, from hard-water heroes to vintage-style, repairable and wi-fi connected models

I'm as surprised as anyone that I managed to finish a fifth book but this one felt satisfying. There's nothing like putting an artist back in their rightful place after being somewhat overshadowed by their husband then virtually forgotten. Mary Gillick deserves to be much better known than she is.

A marvellous fourth read of the year, about the making of Fraggle Rock. Heartwarming and inspiring in equal measures

My New Year's Resolution 2025 was to read at least six books. I have little time to read for any length of time, so while it doesn't sound like much, it's all relative. To keep me accountable, here is the first I've finished, A Hampshire Manor, bought after visiting Hinton Ampner last year

One of my favourite things about the festive season is my Starbucks decorations. While part of me baulks at the rampant consumerism, inside I am secretly delighted.

Do what brings you joy.

It took 40-odd years but I have just discovered the word 'pinniped' while looking up sea lions. I am delighted.

I keep seeing adverts for a silvery ring you wear on your finger and it monitors your heart rate. Expensive, relatively pointless and definitely something I would accidentally drop down the toilet.

A fun fact for my first post and something I did recently. If you visit the state capitol building in Little Rock, Arkansas, they let you hold the money in the vault. I held $600,000, which would keep me in fancy shoes for at least a month
