for one of the two sets, an actual human responded to my customer service inquiry and assured me not only that they would restock and not throw out the XS pair, but that she would set aside an M pair so they wouldn't run out in the meantime.

I would argue that you absolutely are. I have a large vocabulary and a degree from a fancy SLAC, and even when I have been flat broke I have not been working class. As my mom puts it, "you were broke, not poor."

(Based on my previous look at their website I suspect they'll be on top of it, but lots of smaller churches may not be and it is 100% entirely fine to just show up even if your message gets lost amid a deluge of spam)
