This beautiful sonnet was written by my friend @graceseybold.bsky.social in more hopeful times, about the release of a detainee with whom our friend @marissalingen.bsky.social had been corresponding. But it is if anything more important to hang onto it now.

I picture Yosef blinking in the steam that fills the well-loved kitchen; this is when we take our leave--the cell fades like a dream-- and hope we will not hear from him again. And somewhere distant on some other night people are sending texts and making calls, the briefest of connections, light as light, but all together they can topple walls. Some wins are marked by things we never see; it's Yosef's birthday. Yosef is still free.
