A traditional Sunday morning viewing of Blade II. I miss self serious 90s dialogue because if it lands, it’s the coolest thing ever. If it doesn’t, you can make fun of it in the moment. Latter day Whedon-esque dialogue is just too low stakes. Always hedging against itself for fear of not landing

High school me in the early 2000s loved these types of movies on Syfy Channel. Consciously stayed in on Saturdays to watch them, even made my friends watch them with me to the point where Ice Spiders starring The Other Guy from Starship Troopers is still referenced
One of my personal favorite movie trends was the late 90's resurgence of the "creature feature" monster movie. Spurred on by the deft mix of animatronic and CGI work in films like Jurassic Park, this brief comeback was the millennial equivalent of what moviegoers saw in the wake of JAWS.

Hamlet 2 really does get it right about Hamlet (the original). He did just need a little therapy. People get hung up on “To be or not to be” but it’s “alas poor yorick that cuts to the heart of the matter.” Hamlet is so close to accepting his father’s death, so close to coming to grips with….
