Before tunnel boring machines can dig under the Hudson River, the riverbed must be stabilized. That’s a huge project on its own. We have to create a block of reinforced earth more than four city blocks long!

Tunnel boring machines are not standard-issue construction equipment. Each TBM that we use for the Hudson Tunnel Project is a highly complex machine, custom-built for this project. The TBM in this video is on its way to New Jersey now. We'll reassemble it on site and start tunnel boring next year.

We've finished manufacturing the first set of tunnel boring machines for the Hudson Tunnel Project. The machines are shipping to New Jersey now, and tunnel boring will start next year.

GDC congratulates Kathryn Garcia on her nomination to lead the Port Authority of NY and NJ. During her tenure in Governor Hochul's office, Kathryn has played a key role in getting the HTP to where it is today. She will pick up the mantle of exemplary leadership from retiring director Rick Cotton.

This week the North River Tunnel enters its 116th year of service. It’s no surprise that a tunnel this old is a leading cause of train delays. The Hudson Tunnel Project is replacing this antiquated tunnel with modern infrastructure that gets riders where they need to go when they need to get there.

We're hard at work on both sides of the Hudson River - and in it. The Manhattan Tunnel Project team is installing marine temporary structures in the water just off Manhattan to enable ground stabilization beneath the bulkhead in preparation for tunnel boring.

GDC recently installed a temporary noise barrier around the Hudson County Shaft construction site. This video shows the process, from polling local residents to choose a design to completing the project, which included planting 36 trees and adding 9 new parking spots.

We’re making progress on the Hudson County Access Shaft in New Jersey. We've completed 14 of the 42 panels that will make up shaft's slurry wall.

Work on the Manhattan Tunnel Project is ongoing on both sides of the West Side Highway. The access shaft that will enable underground construction is taking shape, along with ground stabilization at the edge of the Hudson River.
