About the BWCAW Gunflint Ranger Station in Grand Marais: "Her immediate supervisor abruptly retired, too, and now, Nezhad said, the Gunflint office that already dealt with staffing deficits has no employees. The office used to have seven or eight people."

My late-season deer hunts usually turn into your basic woods-tromping exploration. Just look at the cool stuff.
Meandering insect patterns on a standing dead aspen trunk. An old broken bottle from an abandoned 1910s homestead site, embossed with the words “Duluth Bottling Works.” Curved ice crystals seemingly growing out of the earth on a muddy forest floor. Bright green, tiny, star-shaped moss growing on a dead balsam fir branch.
