I showed my parents and suddenly they remembered where my Grandad's old Canon Sure Shot AF-7 was, so I guess I have two new old film cameras to run film through.

It's certainly less flashy but I'm very curious to see how well the autofocus and built-in flash hold up.

This is the Olympus XA from 1978. It's the final camera designed by renowned camera designer Yoshihisa Maitani, and despite its small size it's actually a full frame rangefinder. It's one of a kind, beautiful, and absolutely genius in its design.

Also this detachable flash is so cool.

I'm post-processing in Lightroom. Going for a film look because I find the telephoto lens' natural softness and sparkling edge-lighting lends itself well to that. And I think I'm coming to understand how film actually looks under certain lighting conditions, so I'm toying with replicating that.

Recovering from a pinched nerve (yes that's still my entire deal) means I can't lift my big stupid camera without agitating my injury. So here's 4 photos taken on my new phone during my half hour walk the other day.

Hey phones are pretty fucking good now.

I own one of these.

Back injury has put a temporary stop to my ability to go places and hold a camera with a big stupid lens on it, but thankfully this scraggy little bird posed for me in the 4 minute walk to a cafe the other day and let me get close enough to take a photo with my phone. 🪶

I've reset my Instagram algorithm multiple times now but within 2 days it always goes back to showing me everything James Gunn says about anything.

Today Tony Fitzpatrick passed.

I'm only now learning he had a fairly storied career, but the only thing I knew him for was my favourite show Patriot. Here he plays Jack Birdbath, a disgraced ex-cop turned security guard who blackmails a spy.

Watch this clip. Celebrate this incredible man with me.

The music here was a happy accident. Soft Power by Tropical Fuck Storm. It's just what I had playing when I took this recording.

This ad I keep getting is just IP theft from front to back. Surely this isn't legal, right? Ain't no way this stupid app got permission from LEGO and Marvel. Are all the lawyers sleeping?

Well, at least I get my big Bethesda bonus.

Saw Tropical Fuck Storm on Toronto last night and they were excellent.

R.I.P. Robert Redford.

One of my favourites of his was surprisingly recent. The Old Man and the Gun. A true(ish) story of a man who just loves robbing banks, who meets an old woman who he might love more. It would have been my grandad's favourite movie ever, if he'd lived to see it.

Today would have been my dad's 68th birthday. He passed shortly after his 66th. I wish I could call him today, my life's changed so much since he's been gone, and I have so much I wish I could tell him.

Have this photo of him doing the classic dad double thumbs up.

R.I.P. Alan Kings.

Patriot on Amazon is my favourite show I've ever watched. I am currently steadily working through my 5th watch, and seeing so many clever, surreal, sad, and sometimes heart-warming details I've never noticed before.

There's nothing else like it. An absolute treasure.
