Driving north up the Caribbean coast of Colombia gas stations are gradually replaced with people along side the road selling smuggled Venezuelan gasoline.
Colombian gas stations were selling gas at about the same price as expensive parts of the USA. Venezuelan gas was 8 to 10 time less expensive.

This mural is in Bangkok's Chinatown. There are 18 horizontal sections of this bamboo scaffolding going up the building. They are all spaced the same as you see in this photograph.

one of my favorite stories I did at Vox was about Jimmy Carter and his role in energy efficiency standards at the DOE. Truly underappreciated legacy that tangibly improved everyday life www.vox.com/climate/2023...
Refrigerators have gotten really freaking good. Thanks, Jimmy Carter.

In 1979, Jimmy Carter had solar panels installed at the White House.

Ronald Reagan had them removed.

We may be able to trace back the current "Do Harmful Things if it Trolls the Libs" Republicanism to Reagan removing those panels the far more forward thinking Carter had installed.

The telehealth expansion is ending this month!

Thanks to @drjudystone.bsky.social for the interview on this & for sharing my words - and for linking to the letter campaign!

Sign onto it below. We have less than 3 weeks to save telehealth. You don't need to write an actual letter, b/c one...

Telehealth Will Die In 3 Weeks Without Congressional Action
Urgent action is needed to pass the Telehealth Modernization Act before it expires, ending telemedicine on Dec. 31. This would be devastating for disabled and rural patients.

I think my most controversial take on COVID, and what I think nearly everyone in is getting wrong about this, is that it's a disease whose burden falls primarily on the young. Not the old.

I have faced fascism before, in this very country. I was one of 120,000 Japanese Americans summarily rounded up and expelled from our homes at gunpoint, all for the crime of looking like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor.
