Myself and Ethel were delighted to get down this morning to lend our support to the wonderful secretaries and caretakers. It’s a shame that they are now a full week into their strike. They should never have had to stand this long for the basic decency of pension parity and fair leave entitlements.

Great to join Eddie Mullins, CEO of Merchant’s Quay, for a 5k this morning as part of their Road to Recovery campaign to raise awareness of the incredible work they do to support people on their journey to recovery.

It was a chance to reflect on the huge impact Fergus made in the inner city and beyond. I can’t think of anyone who contributed more to advancing social justice and equality through every project he touched.

Yesterday I had the privilege of speaking at the Fergus McCabe Summer School marking 30 years of CityWide. CityWide’s work over the past three decades has been crucial and as we shape the new National Drugs Strategy community groups like them must have a seat at the table.

Tonight’s Equality in Education meeting one thing was very clear - parents and advocates are fed up with the Government’s failure to provide essential supports for children with special needs and they are at their wits end with a system that is failing their children.
