Throwback to my conversation with Keitaro Harada before last weekend’s Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2 w/ the Dayton Philharmonic.

A joy to revisit this concerto and celebrate his first season as Music & Artistic Director. Congratulations Keitaro, on this milestone!

Returning to Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1—this time at Caramoor with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s—and thinking back to a conversation with Ben Laude on how his writing shifts between concertos and sonatas.

What do Chopin, Handel, and Sousa have in common?

I spoke with Ben Laude on The Chopin Podcast about this unexpected connection—and how composers from different eras often have more in common than one might think.

I’m looking forward to being at Ravinia on August 10 to play Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22. Also on this all-Mozart program: the Overture to La clemenza di Tito & Symphony No. 41 “Jupiter.”

I’m happy to return to Caramoor on August 3 to perform with the Orchestra of St. Luke's. Beethoven’s outrageous cadenza doesn’t match the concerto on the program—but it’s too good to miss!

I love giving concerts, and doing some teaching—especially through my work with ToneBase Piano, where I share key ideas on playing. A key one: after striking and sustaining a note, more than 2 oz. of pressure isn’t needed. It can hinder moving to the next note. Piano is applied movement—like dance.

It’s impossible to recreate the excitement, the hubbub, and the exhaustion of winning the 1970 Chopin Competition—interviews, extra performances, and filming prizewinners playing etudes. The crew captured it here in Opus 10 #1.
