I think this discourse has gotten really silly because YIMBYism shouldn't be about "cool walkability" vs "where real Americans want to live." What matters is why denser cities that are less reliant on cars are likely necessary to mitigate climate change, among other harmful effects.

There's this, and there's the long-term environmental urgency of getting people to live more sustainably. If people could magically commute 50 miles to work in Dallas without creating emissions, then sure, move to Dallas. But we don't have that yet.
