Thanks to the fascinating book, 'Lucian Freud: Herbarium' (Giovanni Aloi, Prestel), I now know that zimmerlinde is Sparrmannia africana, erstwhile African hemp. I bought a plant this year, but I lost it through accidental waterlogging. (Someone will say that nothing is accidental.)

Colchicum and colchigo. Grown under the sweet peas; when they are over, and the supporting bamboo circle is lifted, the colchicums are there.

A bud of Drymis lanceolata . I bought a Drymis species for the garden after I'd researched Winter's Bark (Drymis winteri, see link below). It became totally at home, looking good all year round with added allure when the rest of the garden is bare.

At the same time, there was also much gossip that Thomas' wife Belinda had had a child with another, and Thomas accepted her and the child back. This had to go to court to prove the third party was a fantasist. (More on Thomas by me here btw wordsworth.org.uk/blog/2025/01...)
