History nerd deluxe, avid reader, crazy garden lady, pet adoration provider, zen knitter & sometime sewer/quilter who is never, ever bored. I will absolutely block idiots, so don’t bring MAGA to my virtual doorstep unless you want a quick trip to nowhere.
Why yes, I did just spend $76 on treats for dogs we do not even have.

And I’d do it again.
And again.
Dogs are everything.

Nothing says Happy Easter like making pizza and working on a Halloween throw.
Best low-key holiday, ever.

It’s that time of year again, in Northern Illinois!

They grow so fast. I’ll be up to my eyeballs in plant starts in about three weeks, frantically repotting and playing Greenhouse Tetris.
Wouldn’t change it for the world :-)

Let the Garden Tetris Games begin!

#Tomatoes

Gardening friends, if you love tomatoes & want to support Canadian businesses, check out Northern Gardener (Karen Olivier). The most GORGEOUS heirloom varieties, ever!
I get my seeds from Secret Seed Cartel (France) but I’m sure she sells through other resellers in Canada.

Italian chicken sausage
Chicken broth (hauled out of the freezer)
Onions, garlic, celery, carrots (all but the celery, from the garden)
Fresh spinach
Gnocchi from Aldi
And a crap ton of frozen tomatoes from our garden.

Hey, fellow crazy garden people, it’s that time of year again!
You know, the one where you sort through all your seeds, reorganize (maybe add a bin or two for expansion), and decide what you need (or want) to order to add to the glorious mix.

January in the Midwest.

Someone explain to me how something this simple could take me two days, three variations and a whole lot of switcherooing to lay out.

It smells like a Christkindlmarket in my house.

Pork, apples & Sauerkraut on the stove & spiced pecans in the oven.

And plenty of old (& new) German ornaments on the tree.

Funny how a person can be two generations & an ocean away from their origins, & still feel it deep down in their bones.

What it was:
Semi-last ditch effort to muster up some holiday spirit.

What it looks like:
An overgrown deranged elf has taken up residence on our sofa.

Amazing what 15 minutes, some pine branches from the backyard, and random odd bits of this and that collected over the years can make.
Free to me holiday floral arrangement.

Peak contentment.
Sitting by the tree and fire, filling seed packets for friends and family.

Ironing & trimming a bunch of freshly washed fabric yardage. It’s actually comforting. Reminds me of working in the costume shop in college, where we seemed to spend more time ironing & trimming than we actually did sewing costumes. It was simple, mindless work & we had such fun while we did it.
