Jane isn't my name but gardening is my game.

Well... Hopefully.

Semi-brown thumbed amateur gardener with food security concerns looking to garden her way through the summer to an actual crop.

Come watch me fail.
Grammie wouldn't let me pick the SPRING turnip because she believed it best despite my warning her.

Pretty sure these are going to be woody and tough, but I'll know better for next year

Frost first hit on Oct 9. This is my "dining" table. Now dedicated to seed drying.

Fuchsia, nasty, marigold, pinks, hardy geranium, cosmo, zinnia, beans, hollihock, sunflower, cone flower, dill, peas, foxglove and even two acorns.

Waiting on the scarlet runners, hoping they can make it to seed.

Today I harvested the last of the green beans, leaving a few to fatten up into seeds, and the abused head of cabbage that sat completely neglected for the first four months of its life.

Still the biggest cabbage I've ever grown.

I cannot stress this enough.

We are protesting Broadview because of the human rights violations happening within the ICE facility.

If they are willing to assault me on camera, imagine what they are doing to detainees behind boarded-up windows.
Congressional candidate @katmabu.bsky.social was thrown to the ground by ICE agents during a Chicago protest.

“That is what these officers are willing to do when there is press and cameras around," she says, adding that they are "committing human rights abuses" inside.

I've had gut problems on and off all summer... that seem to line up with when the peas were available. I'm so sad, but Grammie's super happy because she gets my portion of peas.

This is the second such harvest. First was half a kilo so I guess over a kilogram of beans have come off the fall garden --not including scarlet runners or snacks.

The garden as it current stands... As much as it does that.

Never plant shelling and snap peas side by side. It's a stupid, stupid idea.

Hey @wsj.com : you gonna retract your bullshit, thinly-sourced reporting or nah?

Moving away from the phone still, but this caught my attention. Both are Brandywines. The left tomato was grown behind the shed in the ground (without care, basically) and the other was in the buckets... That I thought I was caring for really well.

Collected yarrow heads, tickseed, delphinium, cone flower and Columbine for a newly dug pollinator bed.

It's half the size I wanted but you gotta roll with the punches with chronic anything.

Picked a brandywine that I guess is supposed to be orange? Should have taken a pic...

The tomatoes had good spots and bad (like patchy flavour obviously my fault) thick skin and just... Don't know if I'd want to grow this one again.

Handful of snap peas from the fall garden. I'd take a pic, but I ate them...

Today I looked at my ga den and thought, "oh god, what have I done?"

I thought I was being conservative with spacing for everything but the bush beans.

Even those... I didn't expect this.

Two new cone flowers -sherbert and orange- and two hardy geranium -purple and white.

Cone flowers and bee balm will grow to either side of the second gate. The geranium I'd for the new pollinator bed I'm going to dig.

Potato patch is about half dug. I've decided to expand! Not to add another potato patch, but to remove the rest of the sod back there and replace it with a bee garden.

I'd rather have flowers than grass.

This is the veggie platter. Every morning I go to the garden and place my findings here... But it looks like we'll need a basket next week as tomatoes and peppers are starting to ripen!

Worked the potato patch until my hands hurt and it got too hot.

So... Like ten minutes?

I'm sure it was longer than that. Got a two by four foot trench dug and turned.

These marigolds were purchased at the same time, in the same six cell.

The second picture are those that kicked around in the six cell then transplanted three times because of the porch. Yet they're happier and healthier.

Garden update: the only spring bed still growing are carrot and turnip. Peppers are now scattered around the new bed.

Lost one of Grammie's to blossom rot 🤬

This is part of the snap pea vine hanging inside, hoping it dries because this bugger is obviously done growing but won't take that last step to DRY ALREADY.

So I'm testing this out.
