Among the many things that are obviously pernicious and rasily fixable in our current immigration governance, the overlapping jurisdictions and roles of ICE and CBP are an obvious accelerant for abuses of power.
A lot of the worst videos coming out of LA in recent weeks haven't been ICE, they've been Border Patrol, under El Centro Sector Chief Bovino, who responded to Mayor Bass with "The federal government is not leaving L.A ... Better get used to us now, because this is gonna be normal very soon."
NEW — Video shared with me by a bystander shows Customs and Border Patrol violently arresting people yesterday outside a Home Depot in Van Nuys, CA. One man screams in agony as he’s handcuffed, while another is on the ground with two agents on top of him. The agents refuse to identify themselves.

The Heritage Foundation's Project 2025 called for dismantling the NOAA, which provides warnings of natural disasters, such as the deadly floods in Texas. The irony is that Heritage wanted these cuts because it’s angry that NOAA helps prove the reality of climate change--the thing causing floods.
