Baking is my happy place. Double chocolate cookies to go in gift packages for far away family. The baking and freezing, then gifting and mailing… it’s a simple thing; comforting and relaxing in these dark times.

Mount Hood from the Simcoe Highlands in south central Washington. Ponderosa pine and northern red oak form the backbone of the landscape. There are still snowdrifts on the high ridges of the Simcoe.

Here is a palate cleanser after my political-adjacent post. A red geranium in a clay pot. She is named Mrs. Harris after my grade school principal, who always kept geraniums on her windowsill.
