Gatekeeping is absolutely a bad thing but I do think there is something to be said for learning about a hobby before being exposed to some of its worst elements. Plus there are still plenty of bangers from NES -> PS3/Xbox 360.

I will probably introduce my daughter to older console games first (once she's old enough to play) simply because they don't have online connectivity/MTX/gacha. If she maintains an interest as she grows I'll intro newer stuff along with lessons on MTX.

Taking off shoes when you go indoors is absolutely a Midwest thing. You would get wrecked by the parents if you wore shoes inside. Same rule at my place today. The only people I know who wear shoes inside are TV characters. Even drunk friends know the shoes come off before they get inside.
