Jilly! 💔

"Jilly Cooper ’s work is not, so far as I know, much studied in universities. In the [SCR] recently, when I mentioned that I was writing this review, a Very Senior Person slumped forward with his head in his hands, muttering: ‘Oh no, soft porn!’..." 1/2

Charity shop buy. Look at that marvellous title! (1937, before the war, obvs - and also before mansplaining entered the dictionary. Oh Bernard!)

Just arrived, one electric iron, from 1920. Look at that cord! You plug it into the ceiling light. All in all, terrifying.

Very proud to be sitting with Mark Bowles at the Authors' Club Best First Novel dinner last night. No prize this time (but congratulations to Ferdia Lennon!) It was fun to be in the National Liberal Club. Enjoyed seeing one of Gladstone's axes.
