My late wife and I spent 10 years recording concerts by various locations of The School of Rock, a program for kids from 8 to 18. We saw so many girls and young women become astounding musicians.

I met Janis when she was part of a Consumer Electronics Show panel on MP3s, arguing for them.

I checked Stevenson's Wikipedia page, and apparently she named one of her daughters Rosalind. I would like to think she did so to honor Dr Franklin.

I'm reminded of how orchestras started auditioning musicians from behind an opaque curtain, with their names not being given to the evaluators.
Miraculously, they started hiring as many female musicians as male ones, especially on supposedly "male instruments".

How blind auditions help orchestras to eliminate gender bias
To get more women into their ranks, many orchestras use blind auditions where musicians perform behind a screen. Could we replicate this in business?

She's not just an amazing songwriter and performer, she's a brilliant writer. Her essay, "Of Guitars and Righteous Men" from Performing Songwriter magazine choked me up the first time I read it to Vickie.

When the extension of the Kansas City streetcar starts running down there in early 2026, it'll be even better. You'll be able to park for free downtown, have a meal, then head to a game.

I spent about 10 years editing Wikipedia a decade ago. When I try to explain it to people, I just use the two word phrase "volunteer bureaucrats" - people who do bureaucracy because they *like* it.

This sentence "But we do know that Wilkins, without Franklin's knowledge or permission, showed Photo 51 to Watson" reminded me of what happened to Sonora Babb, whose research into the migrants of the Dust Bowl was given to John Steinbeck, making her own novel unpublishable until 2004.

There's never been a "bad year" for movies, and there are always good films if you look hard enough. But they're unlikely to be the ones heavily advertised at you.

Audio engineers have been dealing with that by using constant temperature laboratory ovens to bake the tapes at 130° f for 6 hours. I did that with some ½" open reel black and white tapes, and was able to recover the material.
