We documented partial migration with some sharks remaining in the Keys year round while those that left exhibited strong connectivity between the Keys and Gulf or the Keys and Atlantic but rarely ventured along both the Gulf and Atlantic coasts of FL during 3 years of tracking.

Hi Bluesky peeps 👋🏻
I’m Grace. I’m a fish ecologist who works mainly with sharks and recreationally valuable fish species and sometimes the interactions between the two. Lately it’s tiger sharks in the USVI and striped bass here in MA. I do lots of telemetry with a dash of social science. 🐟🦈🧪🌊

Current direction significantly influenced depredation events. Depredation risk was higher on the outgoing current. Movement data shows hammerheads also occupied a smaller area within the channel on the outgoing current.

Great hammerhead presence in Bahia Honda increased with increasing numbers of tarpon and they modified their space use within the channel in response to tarpon presence. (🦈 = red, 🐟 = yellow)

Using a combination of visual surveys of fishing and acoustic telemetry we quantified depredation rate, documented environmental and behavioral factors driving depredation, and tracked the movements of both species at this recreational fishing hotspot.
