Hi Bluesky peeps 👋🏻
I’m Grace. I’m a fish ecologist who works mainly with sharks and recreationally valuable fish species and sometimes the interactions between the two. Lately it’s tiger sharks in the USVI and striped bass here in MA. I do lots of telemetry with a dash of social science. 🐟🦈🧪🌊

An absolutely incredible couple of weeks in the BVI.
For the Past week we have been lucky enough to study a Nurse Shark Breeding Aggregation in the British Virgin Islands.

This is one breeding event I was lucky enough to document via Drone.

It was NUTS.

Cannonball jellies are so cool! I had no idea there was a species that was blue like this.
Mexican cannonball jellies is so surreal they look almost fake, with a chandelier-like mouth and deep blue color. But this species is also the target of an active & largely unregulated fishery, which collapsed around 2017. But recent posts from citizen scientists provide hope of a blueberry comeback

I worry that the focus on NOAA's weather predicting value is ignoring the millions of other ways NOAA researchers enrich communities and local economies.

There are no oysters without NOAA. There are no blue crabs without NOAA. NOAA trains teachers. NOAA is the lifeblood of coastal communities.
