🍽️ The Business Enterprise Program helps qualified individuals who are legally blind become independent business owners in the food service industry. Participants receive training in management, customer service, menu planning, safety, and more — leading to stable income & benefits.

Under GVRA’s CSPM Section 8.1.2, exceptions to policy can be granted to meet an individual’s unique VR needs—when it’s necessary to help them reach their employment goal. Ask your VR counselor about the process or call CAP for guidance.

Myth: Clients of GVRA cannot have inaccurate or misleading information removed from their case file. Fact: Per GVRA’s CSPM (Policy 8.1.5, Cite 1.5): "All individuals shall be informed of their right to request removal or amendment of misleading or inaccurate information from their case file."

If you’re working with GVRA for help with college, your merit scholarships (like academic or achievement awards) do NOT count against you. GVRA looks at other types of aid first but your hard-earned merit scholarships won’t reduce the support you may get. Your achievements are yours to keep!

When working with VR, it helps to know the types of services available. Primary Services: major services that can stand on their own & are necessary to prepare you for employment. Supportive Services:
help you participate in or benefit from primary services.

Under WIOA, GVRA provides 5 required Pre-ETS activities:
1️⃣ Job exploration counseling
2️⃣ Counseling on post-secondary opportunities
3️⃣ Workplace readiness training
4️⃣ Work-based learning experiences
5️⃣ Self-advocacy instruction

If a student needs services beyond these, they may apply for VR services.

📣Advocacy Tip! Did you know you can have someone support you during the VR process? According to GVRA’s Client Services Policy Manual (Section 8.1.3), you may choose an authorized representative—a person you trust to speak on your behalf. All it takes is a signed form. Ask your counselor today!
