Without Abigail Salyers there wouldn’t have been Bacteroides genetics so early on. And if she is the mother, Jeff Gordon is the son: she gave him many resources that his lab and his trainees’ labs still use. 🦠🧫
To honour Abigail A. Salyers (1942-2013), who is considered as the mother of microbiome research, DSMZ researchers named the strain Streptomyces salyersiae (DSM 41770) after her.
