Sometimes I look Lucie up when I’m writing about her to a student and I always think “oh my god I really got to be your student”

Senators who haven't committed say he'll have to lay out a cogent public health vision in twin confirmation hearings this week.

Sat in my office reading this amazing book by Brenda Hillman aloud with a student. It felt a little less scary and more full of light for a bit.

I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service.

“Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.
White House pauses all federal grants, sparking confusion
The Trump administration has put a hold on all federal financial grants and loans, affecting tens of billions of dollars in payments.

Very smart and in-depth thread on DeepSeek and AI.
As someone who has reported on AI for 7 years and covered China tech as well, I think the biggest lesson to be drawn from DeepSeek is the huge cracks it illustrates with the current dominant paradigm of AI development. A long thread. 1/
