I'm exploring the films of the 1910s atm and I'd love to have something like that to consider when I reach 1915. (or perhaps to inform me of any films I have missed!)

Very much so.

BOAN scratches a lot of itches.

It means they can credit everything to a single film rather than go into the weeds of early cinema.

It re-centers the USA as the film innovation capital.

It makes them feel smart that they can "see past" the racism (assuming they are dupes)

And that's assuming the best, that they were mere dupes and not that they quietly agreed with the film's message.

I am begging people: watch other movies made before and after BOAN. It's a lot less impressive in context (and if you find its message repulsive)
