We got a milkshake masquerading as coffee at home.
3 spoonfuls of coffee ice cream, International Delight Mocha, a splish of Peppermint Mocha creamer, top with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Sprinkles for extra joy.

God Checks Papers
How do you speak to a woman
who loves your children
but would deny someone else's
the right to be children?
She says illegals,
and you feel every vowel
brush against your daughters
because words decide
who is allowed tenderness
and who is not.
You ask if she's Christian.
She says yes.
You ask if Christ ever checked
anyone's documents
before feeding them
She changes the subject
You stand there,
heart split on behalf
of children she'll never meet
children she'd step over
to get to church on time.
Motherhood has made you fluent
in the grief of strangers
She may never learn your language,
but your daughters will,
and maybe that
is the closest thing to peace
you'll ever get.

I redid my nails today, cause painting my nails is my self care. At least until my arthritis gets so bad I can't grip the brushes. But. Yeah. Self care. Cause mental health matters and if pretty nails makes me more able to handle the destruction of democracy? Who. The. F. Cares.
